SRINAGAR: J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday appealed to “misguided local youths” to shun the path of “militancy and extremism”, promising them that the government will take all possible steps to provide them jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities. He was speaking after launching the third phase of ‘Back to Village’ programme in Shopian, South Kashmir.
Sinha said people of J&K, especially the youth, want to tread the path of progress and development and that the few of them who have joined “militant ranks” should return to mainstream for dignified livelihood.
“People of J&K are peace-loving and believe in dignified life. Our youths now have understood the terrible effects of violence and that is why they are pursuing their career and cracking prestigious exams,” the LG said.
He reiterated that the administration will work hard to make J&K one of the most developed Union Territories in the country. “The administration is committed to make the region a role model of development and prosperity.”
The LG also inaugurated a youth recreation centre and a children’s library in Shirmal village of Shopian, besides laying the foundation stone of a 100-bedded girls hostel there.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters at Police Headquarters here on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, DGP Dilbagh Singh said militancy-related incidents have witnessed a huge decline, while the overall law and order situation in the UT has also improved considerably.
“The improvement in overall situation is because of the fact that the youth of Kashmir have understood the bad effects of violence,” the DGP said.
